MARCH-ing to a different drum...
Hello, and welcome to my latest experiment. What you see before you is called a "blog". What's a blog, you might ask? Well, according to the definition found at dictionary.com:
Main Entry: blog
Function: noun
Definition: an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log
Example: Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.
Etymology: shortened form of Weblog
Usage: blog, blogged, blogging v, blogger n
Sound confusing? Good, primary mission accomplished...
Basically, it's a software package that resides on the webserver that allows me to post tidbits of information whenever the need arises. This could be the latest edition of my razor-sharp wit and wisdom known as my 2 cents worth; it could be the results from the latest social/golf event, or even a reminder from the Board, Manager, or a committee about an upcoming event. New entries will appear at the top of the page, and each post is assigned a category. Through the links at the left side of the page, entries can be sorted by Month or Category, with a list of the most recent entries also available. There are also links back to the Walton home page, calendar, newsletter and dues page. The golf calendar will be added as soon as it becomes available.
At the end of each entry is a "Comments" link. Currently, anyone has the ability to add a comment, question, rebuttal, etc. to each entry. By clicking on the "Comments" link and entering your information in the fields provided, you can voice your own opinion on the matter. For the sake of dignity, comments are not posted immediately...I will be notified when there is a new comment. This is primarily to keep unwanted advertisements and pornographic/profane links from appearing in the comments section. I will approve all comments from members and prospective members, provided they are not profane, illegal, immoral, etc., and they pertain to the subject matter of the post.
In addition, the software has the capability to send an email to any number of people whenever a new entry has been made. For the initial setup, I haven't added any addresses to this feature other than my own (just to make sure it worked...it did). If you would like to receive an email whenever posts are made, leave a comment instructing me where to send it (I won't publish those comments...it's just a simple way to let me know).
To get the ball rolling, I'm going to ask Kirk to email me the results from the Walton Super Bowling Party, and I'll post them here sometime this week. You won't want to miss it: Rumor has it someone bowled pretty decent...
