Every month means a little something, but January is the month that cares...
I hope everyone had a very Merry (albeit decidedly brown) Christmas!
The club will be closed New Year's Day, but I hope to see as many of you as possible on the 2nd. Without giving too much away, I'll just say that I won't be hard to miss...you'll have to show up to find out what I mean! Please remember that I bruise easily...
The calendar now lists the lunch specials for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Friday dinner specials are listed in bold type. I have also updated the membership dues page; please let me know if you find any errors. I have been continually changing bits and pieces of the website when I get a spare moment or two, so bear with me...if you find any errors, please let me know!
The "31" Tournament sounds like a ton of fun, and I'm definitely going to try and make it. The Pitch Tournament and Casino Night have both been rescheduled to try and catch the snowbirds, so look for Pitch later in the Spring and Casino Night toward the end of the year this year.
As always, we are still looking for committee help. The Golf Committee will be meeting soon...this month, maybe. Keep this in mind: If Kirk and I are the only ones in the meeting, we get to make all the rules. Please let myself, Kirk or any of the bartenders or Board Members know if you are interested in helping out the Golf, Social or Marketing committees!

A long December and there’s reason to believe, maybe this year will be better than the last...
...not that this year wasn't great.
I'll get the sappy stuff out of the way at the beginning:
1. Get well, Fred! I know I'm not alone in wishing you the best. (I still can't believe they didn't wire your jaw shut anyway, whether it was necessary or not...)
2. Thanks to Kirk, the Board, and all members for a wonderful year.
3. I'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday season, especially to those who, for one reason or another, will spend it without family.
The Board elected officers at the November meeting. The officers for 2006 are as follows: President - Dale Caylor, Vice-President - Mark Swan, Secretary - John Steele and Treasurer - Jeri Schultz. If it sounds familiar, there's a reason...it's the same as this year!
You'll notice there is no Thanksgiving Holiday scheduled for December this year. All you government and bank employees can blame Tim Smith for losing out on your second Thanksgiving this year.
The Board is working closely with Kirk to improve the payout situation with our Iowa Lottery machines. We are trying to implement a solution that balances reasonable timing for larger payouts without carrying too much cash-on-hand at the bar/manager's office. Feel free to voice your concerns, but keep in mind we are trying...to do what's best for the Club as a whole.
If you or someone you know is interested in lending a hand to one of the committees (Golf, Marketing and/or Social), please let it be known! Tell Kirk, myself, any Board member, bartender...anyone, really. We are always looking for new people!
College Bowl season is fast approaching. According to the "experts", it appears Florida will have a good chance of NOT playing on the same day as Iowa this year, leaving all you Hawk fans available to "get your root on" for the Gators this year. There is a possibility that the Gators may be playing Iowa State in the Independence Bowl. Feel free to still root for the Gators...it's not like Bear will hear you...
