April 03, 2006
But then the feeling comes again of an April without end...
It's official: I have played my first round of golf in the 2006 season! Troy invited me to play Brown Deer with Jones, Taco Bill, Chigg, the Repp boys and Tony V. Due to some unkown reasons (we don't know, and we're doubtful he knows), Troy was unable to make the trip...see Jones for more info on that. Still, it was a ton of fun, and I was very pleased with how I played. The past two years, my first outing has been some of the best golf I have played. I think Corrick hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that maybe it is because I'm just trying to make contact instead of thinking.
I started off with pars on the first 5 holes (although #1 was an adventure), and finished up the day with 2 birdies on the back nine, including a 10-footer on #18 to force a tie in the umbrella game. Jones started off the round with an eagle on #1 (don't worry Jones, I won't tell anyone it was from the women's teebox...OR that you took a 9 on the second hole).
The Pitch Tournament/Fish Fry/Baked Goods Auction was a blast again this year. Without going into too much detail, I'll just say that I didn't keep my title. The results from the final table were:
1. Nate "Moon" McWhirter
2. Jeff "Final Table" Koontz
3. Mark "Happy to be here" Swan
4. Dee "You guys are a**holes" Zillman
5. Rich "No Cards" Reever
Nate went from 3rd to 1st with a well-executed moon bid on the last hand. Reever never got any cards, and Dee couldn’t bring game home to save her life. Does Koontz even need to play the preliminary rounds next year, or can he just take his seat at the finals?
The St. Patrick's Day buffet was fantastic! The food was delicious, I imbibed my share of Killian's, and even took home a shamrock plant.
I missed out on Spring Clean-up this year due to Heather being in Burlington for a Girl Scout outing, but I hear the turnout was about the same as the past few years. I believe Kirk said there were 8-9 members there...even less than we get at the Annual Meeting.
Couples Golf, Monday Night League, Golf Kick-Off...April is a busy month at Walton. I hope to see you all there!
