June 01, 2006

No price is set on the lavish summer; June may be had by the poorest comer.

Back by popular demand, it's My $0.02 Worth! All votes have been counted, and by an overwhelming 2 - 0 decision, I'm back for the month of June. Thanks to Kirk and Krieger for noticing I was vacant in May...

I'll start out with the nagging first: Please, please, PLEASE FIX BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS! Mother Nature has turned up the heat, and it doesn't take long for unrepaired ball marks to do their damage. If you don't know how to fix one properly, don't be ashamed to ask someone...I know Larry, Tom and Jim would gladly show you how, as would Kirk, myself and many others!

Congrats to all who participated in the Spring Calcutta, and to those who volunteered their time to make it go off without a hitch. The winners, as follows:

1st Place Team (bought by Sherri Smith)
Score: 63 (won on 1st playoff hole)

Tony Hammes

2nd Place Team (bought by Jerry Sprouse)

Tom Keeley
Corrie Drish

There were only 7 strokes separating 1st Place from 18th Place. I still think we could have used a 15 or 16 hole playoff, but both of those were decided rather early. I'd like to thank my fellow Golf Committee members once again for a job well done: Barb Hunt, Linda Keeley, John Payne, Kirk Harris, Steve Miller, Tim Smith and Troy Waugh...great job, guys and gals!

We had a great turnout for the Memorial Day Potluck as well...I believe the headcount was 50 or better, and the food was delicious!

The Good, Bad and Ugly Tournament is Saturday, June 3rd. For those of you who don't know, here's the format: Two-person teams competing over 27 holes. The first 9 holes are Best Shot (both players hit, choose the best one, both players hit from there, choose the best one, etc.). The second 9 holes are Best Ball (both players play their own ball all the way to the hole, and low score counts). The final 9 holes are Alternating Shot (pretty simple, really...choose who you want to tee off on the first hole, and alternate between players the whole round. Whomever makes the putt gets to watch their partner tee off on the next hole.) It's MAD fun (and by MAD fun I mean it's fun to see Barbie get MAD at me)! We might be limiting the tournament to 27 teams, so sign up ASAP!

The Senior Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20th at 10:00AM. See Kirk or John Payne for details.

The Club Tournament is coming up at the end of the month. You may qualify on Saturday with whomever you wish, but you must play with someone who is in the tournament (i.e., if you have a regular foursome, at least two of you need to be in the tournament for qualifying scores). You will be assigned tee-times and groups for Sunday, which will be flighted. More details will be available at the club as the time nears.

There are parties on the calendar every Saturday night this month, so give Kirk a big thanks next time you see him. Parties bring money to the club, but also memberships...and Kirk has done a great job booking them!

I think I've more than made up for last month here...see you on the course!
