Like most other clubs and many businesses our financial situation has suffered greatly in the last 3-4 years. We’ve tried to limit our expenditures and trim expenses. But do to the fixed and increasing nature of our expenses, we are forced to increase our dues what we consider a significant amount. The dues schedule for 2012 is attached along with the printable calendar. Also you will find notes from your board detailing our existing payment plans and introducing a new 9 month payment plan that we hope will make Walton affordable for our current members and help bring back our old friends and new members also.

THE GOLF COURSE IS CLOSED DURING THESE EVENTS!
RANTS
All play should begin at #1 tee box.
Slower groups of any size please let players behind you play through-we need to create better flow on crowded days. There are some days when the course is crowded that it’s going to be slow-don’t start jumping around to find open holes.
All ropes are put up for a reason. Anybody caught driving through a roped off area will be disciplined by the board.
Please fix your ball marks.
Thanks this month to the flower box girls-the course looks great again! Also our continued thanks to John & Melva Dahl for their landscaping around the clubhouse. Big thanks to Jim Gray for cooking the catfish for our men’s league feed.

We are headed into our busy party season. Saturdays are booked all summer long. Please don’t avoid us on Saturday nights, but check your calendar so you know what else is going on. Once again, please let us know when you are bringing in a group larger than 6. Thank you!
June rants
Our golf course looks fantastic and we all need to do our part to keep it that way. Please fix your ball marks. Please watch your guests and keep them on the cart paths. Big groups watch for players behind you and let them play through as soon as possible. We have always marshaled our course ourselves and we need to continue doing so.
Please don’t throw away empty cans and bottles on the patio. The bartenders will pick them up.

Members are responsible for their guests-this means making sure green fees are paid and they obey our course rules. Let’s try and speed play-we don’t mind big groups, but watch for smaller groups behind you and let them thru. It’s going to be busy sometimes on the course-do not skip around to find open holes.

Our Spring Calcutta was held last month and was another great success. Thanks Steve Miller for your fine auctioneering skills and to everyone who helped or played. The golf committee did a fine job of selecting the teams once again.
Here comes the June golf schedule:
• We have a four-couple tourney on 6/7. The tee time is 10 a.m. and entry fee is $30 per couple. For those of you not familiar with this format, it’s 4 men and 4 women per team and alternating best shot. Put a team together and join in the fun.
• 6/20 is our annual Good, Bad, & Ugly tourney. It’s a 2 person Ryder cup format, 27 holes of pleasure and torture. Tee time is 10 a.m. and the entry fee is $40 per team.
• The last weekend of the month is club tourney time. You play 18 holes of qualifying Saturday and are assigned a tee time for Sunday. You will be flighted for Sunday based on your qualifying score. We will attempt to have men’s, women’s and senior flights.
KITCHEN
Please join me in welcoming Todd Mahan as our new cook. He comes to us from Fun City in Burlington. We welcome your comments and suggestions for new specials or menu items you might like to see.
NOTE: got my first complaints of the season about cart shed parking. Please honor your neighbor’s space! These spaces are not huge, but are very doable. Try and get your cart in as straight as possible. Just a little bit of angle changes things a lot. THANKS!

GOLF
Golf season starts in earnest with our Spring Calcutta 5/17. The sign-up sheet will be on the pro shop counter 5/1. Sign up now!
Memorial Day is 5/25 and that’s our first best shot and potluck. Sign up single, couple, or a foursome for 18 holes of best shot golf starting at 11:00 a.m. After golf we provide burgers, brats, and dogs, you bring the side dishes.
Here’s my first round of golf reminders-make sure you have your 2009 red bag tag. If you’ve paid your dues and don’t have one, see me or the bartender on duty. If you haven’t finished paying your dues, you’re late! Please sign in every time you play. Please allow faster players to play thru. A little common courtesy goes a long way.
We do have a hole-in-one kitty this year. You pay $5 to get in. When someone in the kitty makes an ace, they get 90 percent of the dough (club keeps 10 percent) and everybody re-enters for $5 more. This is a good time to congratulate Delbert Creech on his first hole-in-one on hole #8 recently. A big atta boy for Delbert!
Look for Mark to set up a match play bracket soon.
KITCHEN
Most of you are aware that we are looking for a cook again. This position will be filled soon and I’m cooking as well and as fast as I can! I did not put specials on the calendar this month due to the transition, but we will have something most every day. Let’s call it surprise special month!

Notes From The Bridge
GOLF
The 4th of July- it’s potluck time again. We will start golf this time at 11:00 a.m.! Sign-up single, couples or four person team and join in the fun. We will furnish burger, brats, and dogs, you bring the side dishes. We’ll eat when the golf is finished. The kitchen will be closed all day on the 4th!
The annual Heston Memorial tourney will be held 7/12. This is a 3-person best shot. It’s also a two shift tourney with tee times at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cost is $36 per player and includes lunch. You eat after the morning shift or prior to afternoon play. This is a great fund raiser that benefits local charities. Get a team together and sign-up at the pro shop.
We have another 4-couple best shot scheduled 7/20. The cost is $30 per couple, tee time is 10:00 a.m.
We also have a new sign-in book for all non-members. Please have all your guest sign in accordingly.
If you do not have a current bag tag(they are gray), please see me or the bartender on duty.
CLUBHOUSE
Due to the new law our clubhouse will become non-smoking 7/1. There will be smoking allowed on the back patio (the open patio east of the hall, not the covered patio on the east side of the building).
CORRECTION: Smoking WILL be permitted on the east patio, until further notice. There was some confusion regarding the new law, but at this time we believe we are in compliance, ince Walton does not actually serve food outside.
Please try and use the ashtrays instead of the patio. Let’s try and keep it as neat as possible-thank you!
Thanks to Marge Manley and another anonymous donor (in honor of Ron Headley), we finally have new bar stools! They look very nice and sit even better!
THANKS
Thanks this month go out to Jeff and Sheryl Payne who cleaned #5 fairway after the last big storm.
Also Larry and I would like to thank everybody who worked on the flowers around the clubhouse and on the course-Joanne Hersh, Melva Dahl, Susan Booth, Loralee Brown, and Doug Alexander.
If I missed anybody, you have my thanks and apologies!

Notes From The Bridge...
The Walton Club annual meeting was held 10/28. About 60 people attended. Gary’s soups were wonderful as usual. Three 3-yr board seats were filled. Re-elected after serving 1-yr fill-in terms were Terri Odell and Steve Miller. Also elected was former president Linda Keeley. Thanks everybody who attended and congrats to the new board members. We are also continuing to look for volunteers for the golf and social committees. If interested let me or a board member know!
KITCHEN
We have made some changes in our dining room menu effective 10/31. Lunch will be limited to sandwiches, salads, hors devours, and our daily lunch specials. Our entire menu will be available evenings only. There are some additions and deletions, check them out; let me know what you think.
Tuesday nights we will continue to have crock pot sandwiches of some kind till grill season returns. Smalls already missed the first chili dog nite! Come out and see what Dee’s got cooking on Tuesday nights.
TIDBITS
We will again close the bottom door when winter sets in for good.
Cart shed rent is now overdue. A $5 per month penalty will be imposed till you’re paid up.
Thanks Paynes for the outside ashtray stands-they fit very well and should save some mess.
Thanks Whitney Monument for the plaque in our new cart path-it adds a nice touch.
Closing on a sad note-we lost a good friend and long time member-Ron Headley. We’ll all miss Ron badly. He helped make my job easier-he was my grill master, The B.K. will seem empty without him. Our hearts and blessings go out to his children and family.

Notes From The Bridge...
GOLF
The annual Braggart’s Cup match with the country club was held 9/23, and bragging rights return to our side. The Walton boys ran out to an early lead then held on to win 15-12. Unfortunately our girls lost in the inaugural women’s event at the club. Congrats and thanks to everyone that represented our club. Our tourney season concludes with the Chili Open 10/14. It’s a 4-person best shot, tee time 11:00 a.m. We eat when we’re finished. Put together your team and sign up now at the pro shop.
Cart shed rent is now due. Gas carts are $125 per year-electric $150. Your rent is overdue 11/1 with a $5 per month penalty imposed thereafter. If you intend to remove your cart please tell me now. We do have a handful of people again on a waiting list for space.
I would like to thank all the Friday Nite people who played couples golf and donated most of their entry fees back to the club. Thanks for the great support!
KITCHEN
I’m trying to get these notes out early-WARNING-our kitchen will be closed the first week of October for Gary’s fall vacation. We’re sorry for any inconvenience. We’ll reopen for business as usual 10/10. Once again a reminder-please call in advance with groups of 8 or more.
SOCIAL
There’s a party brewing on 10/6. It’s a Smithburg/Regnier combo birthday party and we’re all invited! I hear Madonna is 40, and Des 50-but I’m not one to believe rumors. So show up and help them celebrate. You can bring some munchies if you want since the kitchen will be closed.
Thanks Steve (Chem Dry) Meyers for spot cleaning our carpets.
Please check our lost & found for any of your missing items. Barb says mid-October-she’s cleaning it out!
Our annual meeting will be held Sunday Oct. 28. Soup is on at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting following at 6:30. We do have three 3-yr seats to fill on our board of directors. If interested in running, please sign up at the pro shop. You do need to be present at the meeting to run. Annually about 10 percent or less of our members attend. People-this is your open forum for complaints and questions. This club is all about our members and families. It’s your right and privilege to elect or serve as responsible board members. Please plan to attend.

Notes From The Bridge
GOLF
Our August golf events both drew very nice crowds. The parent/child tourney had over 60 players and the rebirth of the family picnic after went very well with the help of several people. Thanks to John Dunbar for some of the sweet corn and Trenton for helping me pick it. Thanks Susan Booth for donating the rest of it, and big thanks to Ron Headley for helping me shuck it! Thanks Sommer for your work on the kid’s games, the piñata was sweet, and big hugs to Fred and Teri O’Dell for all their help. We’ll try it again next year. The 3-person best shot was almost a full field and once again a great day. It’s obvious that Joy Padget is a better recruiter than Larry! Next up is the Labor Day pot luck. Golf is at 11:00 a.m. Sign up for 4 person best shot as a single, couple, or team. Bring a covered dish. We’ll supply the meat and we’ll eat about 5 p.m. after the golf. The B.K. will be open and cold drinks and sandwiches will be available. Fall Calcutta weekend is here! The auction is 9/7 after couple’s golf, and the tourney is 9/9. The sign up sheet has been out a week and is almost full. The Braggert’s cup match with the country club is set for 9/23. Larry Padget will pick the team. There is a sign up sheet at the pro shop for available and interested players.
SOCIAL
There will be a retirement/going away party for Rosie McClellan 9/1. She’s leaving town so come and wish her well. We’ll have a buffet available also. The social committee has set 9/22 for this year’s “Amazing Race”, a kind of scavenger hunt/wacky skills challenge kind of thing. More details will be available soon at the bar.
TIDBITS
Our kitchen was recently inspected by the state and received a most outstanding report. Thanks Gary and Angie, it’s all about you guys! Thanks Jim Gray for the carpet job in the men’s locker room. It looks great! Early warning-cart shed rent is due 10/1 and overdue 11/1 with a $5 per month penalty imposed thereafter.
Lastly, thanks everybody who contributed to our cart path project. We collected nearly $4000 which paid all of our cost and still leaves some seed money for next year’s project-the other causeway. Our members are the BEST!

July News
GOLF
Our club tourney was held 6/23 & 6/24. We had 35 people qualify Saturday despite some rain and 33 played Sunday. Bill Corrick is once again our club champion and Larry Bentler a close second. The flight winners were as follows-1st flight John Roloff-2nd flight Ron Dorothy-3rd flight Jim Kindle. Congrats to the winners and thanks to everybody who played . Next up is our 4th of July potluck. We’ll start at 11 a.m. and play 18 holes of 4-person best shot.
Sign up single, double, or as a team. We’ll eat when we’re finished-you bring side dishes and we’ll cook the burgers, dogs, and brats! Our annual 4-couple best shot is scheduled for 7/15. It’s 4 guys and 4 gals-alternating best shot. Tee time is 10 a.m. and cost is $30 per couple. Sign up at the pro shop now. On 7/21 the annual Heston Memorial tourney will be held. This one is 2 shifts-morning or afternoon and a huge local fund raiser. This is a 3 person best shot and additional details are available at the pro shop. The Elks will have their annual youth tourney 7/24. Details are available at the Elks club.
Our cart path project has been delayed a couple weeks due to the weather-it should happen in July. As you recall, Vi Pearce generously donated the money for the west portion of the path, and our contractor, John Brewington, is donating the labor for the east side. Now it’s your turn to help-PLEASE! We’d like to try and raise the cost of the concrete for the east side thru your donations!
Ideal concrete has quoted us a reduced cost of $71 a yard and it’s about 30 yards. I’ve got 6 pledges for a yard already-I’m calling it “It’s not hard-buy a yard!” So make your pledge now. Contact me or your favorite board member. I’d love to do the other causeway next year-if we raise extra dough, we’ll start saving for that project! Here’s my complaint department for this month. Please watch your parking in the cart sheds. Be kind to your neighbor. These spots are not large-put your cart in as straight as possible. Please watch for the wet spots on the golf course after heavy rains. Our golf course is in great shape-let’s keep it that way! Stay out of the ditch on #4 and don’t drive thru standing water. Our tab system in the bar is being somewhat abused-tabs should be paid daily Thank you!
Dean and Jeanette Edwards would like to thank all their Walton friends who responded with calls, cards, and well wishes during their 50th wedding anniversary celebration!
Here’s an update from your Walton board- Here is a look at what the board has been discussing over the last several months. There will be some work done to the access road leading to the backside of the course as well as continued work on ladies #6 tee box. The men’s restroom is undergoing a lot of change and is looking great. The club is now offering a “Grill your Own” option for when the kitchen is closed using the grill on the patio. Please see the bartender for our menu. A new water cooler has been installed in the shelter on #5. The board approved a raise in the drink prices. Please see a board member or Kirk with any suggestions or concerns that you may have.

Untitled, For Some Reason...
GOLF
Golf season started with two memorial tourneys-one wet and one dry! The Brian Best memorial was held on a rainy Sunday May 6. Here’s a note from the family- The Brian Best family wants to express gratitude for all who supported the 1st annual “Best Shot”. Unfortunately we cannot control the weather. With your unselfish donations we will be able to give athletic scholarships to both a girl and a boy our first year. We thank you so much for helping Brian’s memory live on. The Jim Emry memorial tourney was held May 27 and turned out to be a great day. Good money was once again raised by the Emry Cancer Foundation. Thanks to all our members who supported these two special tournaments. Our first invitational tourney is the Good, Bad, & Ugly- 2 person Ryder Cup June 16. It’s 27 holes of best shot, low ball, and alternating shot. The cost is $20 per person-so get a partner and sign up now! We have our annual club tourney June 23 & 24. You play 18 holes for a qualifying score anytime Saturday and finish on Sunday. There are more details available at the pro shop. If you’ve looked closely at the annual golf calendar you’ve noticed that all the July dates are wrong!-Sorry-Please check next month’s calendar for the correct ones.
Here are a few thank-you’s to pass along-thanks Doug Alexander for the flower work on the golf course. Also to Angie Dunbar for the flower pots around the clubhouse-they look great, and once again to Taco Bill Corrick for the new water fountain on the course. Thanks a lot folks.
SOCIAL & KITCHEN
We had another huge brunch crowd for Mother’s Day. Thanks Gary for a great meal and special thanks to the wait staff for handling the big crowd so well. Here are a couple things we’re going to try this summer. On Friday nights we’re going to light our big grill and have a couple of weekly grill-your-own specials in addition to our normal dining. We’ll put baked potatoes and a veggie on the hot table so you can dine at your own pace. Sunday afternoons and evenings we’re going to light the smaller grill on the patio and have burgers and dogs available to cook.
In late June we will be building and pouring new cart paths on both sides of the causeway leading to #1 tee box. Here’s a letter explaining how-thanks Vi, we love and miss you! Dear members: enclosed you will find a check in the amount of $7132.00. This is to cover construction of the concrete cart path from the clubhouse to the bridge. It is my hope that the concrete path will be a great addition to the Walton club and it will be enjoyed by all members for years to come. Pete and I called Walton our home for over 40 years and it will always hold a special spot in my heart. Sincerely, Vi Pearce

Golf Season Is Now!!!
GOLF
As you can tell by the May calendar, golf season is here and our course looks great! Our tournament season starts May 6 with a new and special tourney-The Brian Best Memorial. We follow this up with the spring Calcutta May 20 and the Emry Foundation fundraiser Memorial Day weekend. The Emry tourney is scheduled for Sunday May 27 with Monday the 28th as a back-up date. We’ve decided not to do a Memorial Day pot luck , but we will do the 4th of July and Labor Day. Details for these and all of our tourneys are available at the pro shop.
Here’s the first of our golf season reminders. Dues are over due, it’s time to settle up. If you did not get your bag tag when you paid, get one now from anyone behind the bar and display it. This year’s golf calendar is included this month. This is published for your information, please hang onto it and check it before you plan to play, especially weekends! Lets’ all take care of our golf course. Stay on the cart paths, please fix your ball marks on the greens, and do your best to stay out of the wettest spots this spring. Monday Men’s league once again has 20 4-man teams. The course is closed to non-league players at 4:00 p.m.-and this means off the course by 4. We will still do a Walton golf apparel order this spring. If you’ve seen something you’d like in a color or size we don’t have-please let me know by May 15. We also had a fantastic turn out for clean up day-big thanks to everyone that helped!
KITCHEN
We had another huge turnout for Easter brunch and as usual Gary provided a great meal! We’ll do it much the same on Mother’s day May 13. The menu will change slightly and I’m sure it will be great also. Please make your reservations early!
Our summer party season also starts this month and according to my party book last almost to October. I’ll try and keep you informed of the crowds you’ll face-mostly on Saturday nights.
Lastly and mostly, I’d like to thank everybody who covered what little work I actually do while I was on my little vacation. Special thanks to Barb, Dale, and Mark-plus the rest of the staff and board! Everyone’s concern once I returned has been very touching also. Thanks everybody!

From Mark: I just wanted to extend a little gratitude to everyone who has rolled up their sleeves and pitched in while Kirk has been away. I encourage you all to, at the very least, shoot a verbal thanks to the following people the next time you see them: Dale Caylor, John Dunbar, Terri Odell, Sommer Lyons, Jerri Schultz, Steve Miller (gotta thank those Board Members first!), Barb Hunt, Dee Zillman, Walt Shipman, Lani Smith and Janie Giberson (BIG thanks on the 24th!). I am certain I have forgotten some people, so I'll apologize in advance!

WLECOME NEW MEMBERS!
SOCIAL
We kicked off the NASCAR season with the Daytona party. It was rather lightly attended but everybody had a great time. Thanks social committee girls for another job well done! Our next social function is our annual pitch tourney/fish fry/silent baked good auction-the one event that may set us apart from every other club! Play begins at 1:00 p.m.-try and sign-up by 12:30. We’ll cook fish during play and we’ll run our auction until play ends. You can participate in all or just part of the day. Come out and check the action and the baked goods or just have a piece of fish. This auction has always been a fun little fund raiser. So bring out your favorite baked goodies and help raise a little dough for the club. Sorry-hopefully that’s my worst pun of the year!
We are closing the kitchen for Gary’s spring vacation the week of 3/12. Also during this week we intend to redecorate the bar room. Please excuse our mess.
GOLF
Golf season approaches-here’s a couple of early items. This is the last year of a 3 year experiment with our golf handicap system. Last year’s participation was very weak-we need at least 20 people per year to keep the system in house. So if you want it to stay, sign up, pay, and use the system. Cost remains $12-sign up at the pro shop. We still have some unpaid cart shed spots. Carts will be pulled 3/15-weather permitting. We have a waiting list for spots-if you’d like to keep yours-see me now!
Saturday March 10 we’re having an open house to help our friend and neighbor, Vi Pearce, celebrate her 88th birthday. The hours are 2-4pm-stop by for cake and coffee-cards would be most welcome. For those of you who don’t know- Vi and her late husband Pete-ran the Walton Club for 15 years 1959-1974 and our club would not exist today if not for Pete and Vi.
Here’s a new addition to the notes-a quarterly update from your board-
Hello members! The board is going to start adding a quarterly report to the newsletter to let you know what has been going on. The main bar will be getting some work starting in the beginning of March. Please come out and help if you find time, Kirk should be able to give you additional details. The men’s room will also be having some work done to it before long. Please bear with us during the construction. It has been discussed paving the cart path just north of the clubhouse to the causeway. The board will be making plans closer to golf season, or at least as soon as the weather permits. The extension of the ladies #6 tee box is underway and will be a great improvement to the course. Soon we are also hoping to add some gravel to the south cart shed. Do you have any suggestions or complaints? We would love to hear it! See any board member so it can be brought up at the next meeting! Thank you, The 2007 Walton Club Board

Notes from the “Bridge”
SOCIAL
All right you Bear and Colt fans, it’s time to party! We’ll kick-off our Super Bowl Sunday festivities with our annual 9-pin bowling tournament at 1:00 P.M. Feb. 4. We still have spots available you can even show-up game day! Bowling is $10 per person and you can sign-up as a single, couple or a four person team. We will have free hot dogs and chips while we bowl. The party moves to the clubhouse after bowling, game time this year is 5:30 P.M. For the game we’ll have drink specials, prizes and of course Jello Shots. Bring your favorite football snack and party! You of course don’t have to bowl to be part of the fun, join us anytime.
Feb. 18 Nascar season cranks back up at Walton with the Daytona 500 party. We’ll have driver pools, drink specials, raffles and prizes. Race time is later at 3:15 P.M., but the party starts whenever you get here! Bring your favorite snack for this one also.
CLUBHOUSE
Everybody needs to take a look at our dance floor. Jim Gray and his crew sanded and refinished it and it looks wonderful. This was done at no expense to the club. Sandy Steele and Gail Gaus donated funds from John and Larry’s memorials for this project. We thank you both from the bottoms of our hearts- it’s nice when some good comes from such tragedy. Then we papered and painted the entire party room. Our on staff interior decorator Sheryl Payne, and our new board member Terri O’Dell, picked the colors and scheme. We put together a great group of volunteers and board members, then attacked the project on a Sunday. Everything looks great! Jeff Payne calls it Extreme Makeover-Walton style! Many thanks to the entire crew especially Sheryl.
We will also be doing the pool room in March- volunteers will be need for this project also!
We’re also making a little change on Tuesday Nights. Instead of chili dogs every week we’re going to try a little variety. We will still have chili dogs some weeks but also BBQ pork and other various crock pot goodies.
